What is GlobalHealthReporting.org?

GlobalHealthReporting.org is a project developed and operated by the Kaiser Family Foundation with major support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to provide journalists and others -- including researchers, policymakers and nongovernmental organizations -- with the latest news and information about HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria worldwide.

GHR.org includes:

  • The latest news on global health issues;
  • Resources, reference libraries and the latest information and statistics on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria;
  • Reporting resources for journalists, including media contacts, tutorials and other educational, training and grant opportunities for health reporters;
  • Country-focus pages with in-depth information and resources about the three diseases;
  • A calendar listing upcoming events and trainings related to HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria and health journalism.

The resources are free-of-charge and continuously updated.

Site content is produced and maintained by the staff of the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Advisory Board Company.

Funding for the site was provided through a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation with support from the Kaiser Family Foundation.

How might I use this site?

Journalists, researchers, policymakers, nongovernmental organizations and others might use the site to

  • Develop a story line through research and online discussion; Improve reporting skills with online tutorials and manuals;
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest news on HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria from around the world; and
  • Obtain video for broadcast reports about HIV/AIDS and other public health issues.

What is the Kaiser Family Foundation?

The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation is a non-profit, private operating foundation focusing on the major health care issues facing the nation. The Foundation is an independent voice and source of facts and analysis for policymakers, the media, the health care community and the general public. The Foundation is not associated with Kaiser Permanente or Kaiser Industries.

What is the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation?

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation's Global Health Program is focused on reducing global health inequities by accelerating the development, deployment and sustainability of health interventions that will save lives and dramatically reduce the disease burden in developing countries.

The foundation was created in January 2000, through the merger of the Gates Learning Foundation, which worked to expand access to technology through public libraries, and the William H. Gates Foundation, which focused on improving global health.

Does the Kaiser Family Foundation provide grants or fellowships?

The Foundation is a non-profit private operating foundation that develops and runs its own research and communications programs (often in partnership with outside organizations) and does not accept unsolicited funding requests.

However, the Foundation does sponsor opportunities for both U.S. and international journalists interested in health reporting.
